Klein built this meter to measure cable length in electrical, data, two-wire, coax, Romex, and other multiwire applications with a range of up to 3000 feet (914 meters). It uses TDR (Time Domain Reflectometry) technology to measure distance-to-fault and open or short on both terminated or unterminated cables. As you would expect, you can switch between standard and metric measurement units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coax-BNC or alligator clips connect to most cable types. There’s an RJ45 jack to interface with terminated data cables. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programming uses Velocity of Propagation (VoP) values to give you a length measurement with accuracy at \u00b12% plus 3 feet. You can store custom cable VoP values on the meter to help you work more efficiently when you’re repeating lengths. <\/p>\n\n\n

The Klein Tools Cable Length Meter is also capable of toning unenergized, open-ended wires for tracing. If you want to use that function, you’ll need to grab the VDV500-123 Analog Probe to go with the meter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meter has a full-color, interactive LCD screen. While we haven’t had a chance to use it, Klein tells us that the control interface is simple to use. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It runs on just two AA batteries and you can expect about 15 hours of continuous use on each set. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
